About Bernard’s Acre

Bernard’s Acre is the ideal location for families, walking, church or youth groups in self-catering chalet-style accommodation near the village of Belstone in Devon. Less than ten minutes from the A30, yet at the foot of some of the highest and wildest parts of Dartmoor, Bernard’s Acre has an unrivalled setting. We can accommodate 24 in 6 bedrooms with the option of 3 group camping pitches, and a hookup for a campervan.
We are a non-profit making charity with every penny being ploughed back into improving facilities and making sure the centre is fit  for the next 50 years.

Originally purchased in memory of a Church Youth Worker in the 1970’s and set up as a Christian Charitable Trust, Bernard’s Acre still serves Christian groups, but is open for hire by anyone respecting our values.

IMG_0644Autumn 2016  saw the beginning of phased and extensive refurbishments which, when complete, will involve a complete internal rebuild. Bernard’s Acre will be able to accommodate visitors through the colder months as rooms are fully insulated and warm air from the lounge is pumped throughout the building.

Phase 1 Visitors since Easter 2017  have enjoyed internal changes to the lounge and kitchen areas,  two rebuilt bedrooms as well as opened up grounds. Hidden behind the scenes is a complete rewiring, compliant fire alarm system, Nest controlled heating and hot waters systems, and a lot of insulation all round.
Phase 2 winter 2017 / Spring 2018 has seen the creation of a brand new bedroom and en-suite bathrooms for three of the rooms, as well as further internal rebuilding.
Phase 3 Planning permission is currently being sought for further extensions and improvements to the building

Bernard’s Acre is a company which is limited by guarantee (company registration no. 6932120) and is a registered charity (no. 1131269).

We are undertaking extensive works this winter so there are regular opportunities to volunteers to help, ranging from outside garden maintenance through to skilled building trades work and everything in between.  If you would like to hear about these work days, help fund the work or just receive emailed news updates three times a year, please sign up here.
